Oregon Divorce Laws
According to the CDC, research shows Oregon to be the 4th highest state for divorce in the country with an average rate of 12.8%. Oregon is a no-fault state with the only ground being irreconcilable differences. At least one party must have been a resident of the state for 6 months prior to the filing and the court generally waits 90 days for the first trial or hearing. The filing fee is $260.00.

If you are a parent of a child under 18 and have filed for divorce, this law allows family court or your presiding judge to require you to participate in a parent education program. The purpose is to help parents learn how to manage this difficult time in the best interest of the children. Classes teach parents skills in anger and stress management, how to understand the emotional impact on children, effective communication skills to successfully co-parent, the effects of their conduct on the children, and how to set up parenting plans. If you would like to take an online class instead of going to a traditional weekly in-person classroom, we suggest that you get prior approval from your judge, social worker or attorney to complete the class online. Once approved, you can take it 24/7 at your own pace and submit your Certificate of Completion to the court when you finish.
